for that suspect who essentially pulled a houdini. this is the man officers are looking for, anthony sanchez seen in the picture. he is about 5'5", 275 pounds. yesterday afternoon san jose police went to the parkside glen apartments on hillsdale road to arrest him for outstanding warrants. officers say they had to double cuff him because sanchez couldn't get his arms close enough together. but there was something he could do. officers put sanchez in the back of an unmarked car. when one officer was distracted with paperwork, sanchez slipped his cuffs and was able to jump in the driver's seat and drove away. >> now it's just going back to square one to find the suspect. hopefully he will still have the handcuffs on when we find him. >> reporter: two hours later police found the minivan parked in a neighborhood about a mile away. all of the equipment was still in the front seat. there were no firearms inside. now, as for how sanchez got these keys in the first place, san jose police say it is common practice for them to leave the keys in the ignition if th

this guy when he took advantage of them. anthony sanchez is a husky guy. about 275 pounds, he had violated his parole on a drug conviction. so san jose police came to his apartments to arrest him. officers double-cuffed sanchez like this, because he couldn't get his arms close enough together. the undercover officers then put the 32-year-old in the back of an unmarked police minivan, but then dropped papers on the ground. >> literally took a couple of seconds where the officer bent over to pick up the paperwork. and the suspect was able to jump into the driver's seat, put the car in gear and flee the scene. >> reporter: a tenant had just left and the apartment gate stayed open just long enough. officers swarmed the area. about two hours later, they found him. sanchez was about a mile away. he took off. all the police equipment was still on the front seat. there were never any weapons inside. >> hopefully he'll still have the handcuffs on him when we find him. >> reporter: it was common for officers to leave keys in the ignition if they'r

van while he was in handcuffs. officers say anthony sanchez then dumped the unmarked van near almond, and expressway, and ran about a mile from where it was stolen. officers say they picked up sanchez on a probation violation about 3:30 this afternoon. but because he was a large man, officers linked two handcuffs together. officers say they were doing paperwork, when he slipped the cuffs in front of himself, went to the front seat and just drove off. weighing 250 to 275 pounds, he was last seen wearing black sweats and a sweatshirt. >>> a single metal bolt brought one of san francisco's cable cars to a halt today. the cable car struck at about 10:20 this morning. ten people were injured during the abrupt stop. seven of them were taken to the hospital. the major accidents team in muni are looking into how that bolt lodged into the track. >> stopped the car dead. we lost one person off the vehicle. a female fell off, hurt her legs. numerous injuries on the cable car. >> police say they do not believe the bolt was maliciously placed in the tracks. muni is trying to determine where it ca

. kris sanchez, nx bay area news. >>> the dry spell is nearly over. rain will return tomorrow. here's a live look outside at silicon valley. it's clear now but that's all about to change. let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri from the nbc bay area weather center with more. jeff? >> 13 days since our last major rain across the bay area, and for that matter, we haven't seen much of anything in 2013. satellite radar picture tonight look like a storm is coming. you can see very clear conditions across the greater bay area but we zoom out and the area i'm focusing in on is 334 miles away. that is the zone with the cold front that will eventually bring us our first rain drops again in 13 days. now let's take a look. tonight that increasing cloud cover throughout san mateo and san francisco counties and then for tomorrow morning as we zoom in, it's that area there in the north bay, napa, morin, sonoma county. anyone traveling from santa rosa down to san francisco will get those rain drops first. we are tracking not only the rain but some extremely low snow. we'll let you know who
